What’s better than an Air Cooler? when your fan fails to keep you cool during the hot summer months. Well, Not everyone can afford an Air Conditioner and buying an Air Conditioner is not just about spending huge money at once but you also have to pay huge monthly bills.
For a Middle-class family, the Air Cooler perfectly fits in. It costs less and doesn’t put a load on your monthly bill because it consumes much lesser electricity than an AC. An Air Cooler tries to replace an AC but it just can’t. Air Cooler doesn’t make the Air cold instead it just blows cold air towards you.
10 Best Air Cooler in India 2019
You just can’t buy an Air Conditioner for every single room and ceiling fans usually fail during hot summer days. Most of the Air Cooler listed here have more Air deflection which means it will deliver cold air to a large area of your room without making a hole in your pocket.
Do you know? Even the best Air Conditioner in India causes skin problem and Asthma while Air Cooler is also Eco-friendly they give fresh, clean and humid air. People only tend to get the AC cleaned when it stops working so the uncleaned filter keeps attracting bacteria and viruses while the Air Cooler comes with Air Filter which you can clean or replace itself easily.
If we talk about power consumption then a 1-ton Air conditioner consumes around 0.8 units within an hour and a 1.5-ton Air conditioner consumes around 1.2 units in an hour while an Air cooler consumes only 0.1 to 0.15 units in an hour. So you can clearly see here that an air cooler consumes 1/10th power as compared to an Air conditioner.
Now, When you have already made up your mind for an Air Cooler. So, without further ado here’s a list of 10 best air coolers in India 2019.
1. Crompton Greaves Ozone
Crompton is one of the recognized brands which makes household appliances. We have two Crompton Air Cooler in our house not this one but the one we have worked really well.
This is the best Air Cooler we found till now. The Crompton Greeves Ozone comes with a huge 75 Litre water tank. Having a huge water tank means you just have to fill the water once and then forget it for 8-10 days. Not like Air Coolers with 15 or 20 Litre water tank where you have to fill water every day.
The Cooler has a wide opening for the air to flow and the internal left to right or right to left swing is controllable and you can manually adjust the outer swing. Also, It has speed control knob with the 3-speed setting and there is also a water level indicator.
It has 4,600 m3/hr Air delivery which is Ideal for a room size of up to 550 Sq Ft. My friend owns this cooler and reviews as per him is great. According to him it also consumes less power, only 190 Watts. So if you are looking for one such Air Cooler then here’s your bet.
What I like
Well, I already own a Crompton greeves Cooler and I really liked the way it covers the entire room. The area from where it blows the air is big so even at low settings it gives enough fresh air. You can use the low setting for a small room, a medium setting for a bedroom and high setting for a big room like halls.
The water tank is big so no need to filling water every day. You just have to fill it once and forget for almost a week. Effective Honeycomb Cooling Pads which cleans the air effectively. It has a separate ice tray on top. You can fill it with some ice cubes and it will make the Air colder. Another thing I liked about this cooler that it has wheels base so moving it from one room to another won’t be a difficult task.
What I don’t like
This is a larger size cooler and takes up more space in your room also if you are trying it for kitchen then it won’t fit a smaller sized kitchen. To cover up more area the motor needs to run at full speed so it creates minimal “hummmm” noise on all speed levels.
Having a large water tank is great but you also have to spend time filling the tank too. This tank takes 6 to 7 buckets of water and the hole to fill the water or water inlet is also small so you have to spend a lot of time filling 6 to 7 buckets of water with a mug one by one. Well, you can avoid this by buying a water pipe.
- Large water tank with massive 75 Litres water capacity.
- Honeycomb pads more effective than Wood Wool pads.
- Covers large area throws cold air up to 52 ft.
- Ice cube tray for better cooling.
- Large size so it always stays above your bed level.
- Creates some annoying noise
2. Symphony Siesta
Symphony is another great brand when it comes to consumer electronics. There are a lot of coolers available from Symphony but we found this one to be the best value for money.
There is also a Jr (Junior) model available of the same Air Cooler which is same capacity as this one but smaller in size we will discuss how this one is better later on in this article. The best thing about Symphony Siesta is its design it is a modern looking Air Cooler which a huge water capacity. It can hold 70 litres of water so you don’t have to fill in water every single day.
It has a special designed Air Grills to throw the air effectively in every corner of your room. Also, It has a powerful 16-inch fan with motorised louvres so the cool air is well distributed throughout the room.
The powerful 160 Watts motor used here is capable of cooling an area of 370 sq ft. This cooler comes with a 1-year warranty.
What I like
I really liked the design of this air cooler. It has a modern look, a good build body and will stand out in every kind of house. The water level indicator is also big So you can easily take a look at the current water level, the one I own has a very small water indicator and I can’t even measure the water level with it it’s just not visible at all so having a bigger water indicator is a must.
The water tank here is 70 litres just like the Crompton one. It has the same problem of filling water slowly which you can avoid by buying a water pipe. This Cooler also has Caster wheels which is better than the normal plastic wheels.
This Air Cooler even consumes less power than the Crompton Greeves Ozone, only 160 Watts so you can easily operate it for a longer period of time without worrying about your electricity bill.
Also, we talked about a smaller variant of the same air Cooler remember? The smaller variant is small in height it won’t throw the air to the body level. You may also have to use a stand-in order to raise it above your height of the bed so keep this thing in mind before buying a small air cooler. You don’t have to face such issues with this one because it has adequate height.
What I don’t like
The air delivery is quite low when compared to the Crompton Greeves Ozone, it will cover up to a 400 sq ft. It rotates at 1400 m2/hr which is quite low, So you may have to keep it closer to you.
The ice tray is missing in the Symphony Siesta well you can alternatively drop ice in the water tank but it will affect that much. Having a separate ice tray cools the water flowing through the pump. Lastly, the price of the Air Cooler is also high. You can wait for a sale and then grab it but the normal price is quite high as compared to the other 70 litres cooler.
- Great design it looks Modern and has Plastic build.
- Low power usage 160 Watts motor saves you a lot of power.
- Large Water tank it has a Massive 75 litres water capacity.
- Priced High, The price should be a bit low.
- Missing Ice tray having an ice tray provides better efficiency
- Less Air throws only Good for a small room.
3. Maharaja Whiteline Arrow Dlx CO
Yet another good consumer electronics brand widely famous for its Air Cooler and Mixer Grinder. The Maharaja Whiteline Arrow DLX Co features a 50 Litres water tank capacity. The Air Cooler is boxed shaped and has 2500 m3/hr air delivery. The Arrow deluxe has small vents but it is capable of delivering air up to 35 feet. It has 3-speed modes and 2 swing modes controllable with a knob as well as a moisture control switch.
It has 4-way air deflection which you can manually control or fix it in one direction as per your need. We have a similar Air Cooler in our house from a different brand and I’ll explain the advantages and disadvantages later on. Now if you are looking for a small sized cooler with high water capacity then you can go for this one.
Horizontal manual and vertical motorised louvre movement ensure cold air is evenly spread throughout the room. This cooler comes with 1 year of warranty.
What I like
This cooler uses a blower design instead of a regular fan design thus providing better air flow. Having a blower doesn’t require the opening to be large thus it can fit in a smaller size Air cooler.
The Maharaja Whiteline Arrow also has mosquito net covering all three sides of Woowool pads and the net also prevents you from getting an electric shock as it completely covers wood wool pads which become wet.
This is a small sized cooler but still, the air delivery is great, it can throw air up to 35 feet which is good enough for 3-4 people. It is also inverter friendly So you can still keep using the Air cooler in a power outage.
What I don’t like
I don’t usually like coolers with short height well, I own of these types of cooler and I know the burden of raising it above my bed level. You have to buy a separate cooler stand with it in order to use it in your bedroom. The stand is not included in the package so you have to spare extra bucks for it.
This comes with Aspen Wooden fibre pads which are not as good as the Honeycomb pads while it costs low but requires high maintenance also it is not much effective. The power usage here is high, it takes around 220 Watts of the power supply.
It doesn’t have an ice tray you have to fill it with cold water in order to get cold air out of it. Having a separate ice tray is like the icing on the cake. Lastly, it has a small water indicator which I personally don’t like.
- Inverter friendly
- Large water tank holds 50 litres of water
- Covers large area good enough for a small room
- Low in height, you need to buy a stand
- High power usage consumes 230 Watts
4. Kenstar Cyclone-12
The Ken-star Cyclone 12 Air Cooler is very economical and best for versatility. It has a nice looking design and packs amazing features. The water tank here is 50 litres which are good enough and you don’t have to fill in water each and every day. It has a large fan design which will provide greater air delivery in your entire room.
There are two models available of the same cooler. One with remote control feature and the other one without remote control. The price difference is about Rs 1,000 and if you don’t want to get out of your bed each time to control the speed or turn it off then you can go for the variant with remote control.
It has 3 controllable knobs for speed control, swing control, and moisture control. It is also power efficient uses only 190 Watts and you can also operate this on your inverter. There is another model of Ken-star listed below so check that out as well.
What I like
There is a lot of things which I liked about this cooler, lets first talk about the thing I liked the most. The remote, This Ken-star Air cooler comes with a remote control just like an Air conditioner. Now you don’t have to go near your cooler to adjust its settings or to turn it on or off you can just do it with the included remote.
It has a separate ice chamber throw which the water flows. Having an ice tray makes the cooler cools the air more effectively. This cooler also comes with a mosquito net and dust filter. The net and filter really help to keep out the mosquito and small insects to enter the cooler.
In the end, you will get fresh air every time. I always look for air cooler with honeycomb cooling pads and this cooler has it. It is also compatible on inverter so another plus point here.
What I don’t like
I don’t like the pricing of this air cooler. It is slightly high as compared to other air coolers. Anyways you can wait for a sale to grab this one.
This cooler is slightly low in height if you decide to use it in your bedroom then you might have to use a small stand but wait did I just forget to tell you! The stand is included in the package itself.
The water level indicator used here is in black colour so you will have a hard time checking the water level. You might have to use a torch instead. Lastly, the noise this cooler creates a lot of noise so bear in mind if you have small children sleeping then it might wake them up.
- Ice chamber for better cooling efficiency
- Honey Comb cooling pads, more effective than wood wool pads
- Works on inverter
- Remote Controlled
- Includes Stand in the package.
- Low height but comes with a stand.
- Priced high
5. Kenstar Double Cool Dx
Here’s another one from Ken-star, it comes with a box kind of design. Most of the boxed type air coolers resemble each other in terms of design. The Ken-star double cool dx comes with a solid plastic build.
It has 2 controllable knobs for speed control and swing. This cooler also consumes less power, 200 Watts. You can also operate this cooler on inverter so you don’t need to worry about the power outage. The cooler from Maharaja with the same specification consumes about 220 Watts so here’s a plus point.
The water tank here is of 50 litres capacity so you don’t have to fill the water every day just fill it once and forget it for a week. It also has good air delivery 1700 m3/hr and can throw air up to 35 feet. It has a 3-way water inlet. You can use the front inlet to fill the water or use the side tap or you can remove the back panel and fill the water from there.
Horizontal manual and vertical motorised louvre movement ensure cold air is evenly spread throughout the room. This cooler comes with 1 year of warranty.
What I like
The cooler uses blower instead of a normal fan design which is more effective in a smaller sized cooler. The water capacity is again great here, the water tank is large the capacity is 50 litres which are really liked.
The cooling pads are covered by mosquito net so it prevents mosquitoes and small insects to enter the cooler. So you get fresh and clean air from this cooler. The cooling area is good but not great. If you use it in your bedroom then it will cool your entire bed area easily but not more than that.
You can choose anyone between the Maharaja Whiteline Arrow and this one on the basis of price. There is another variant from the same brand Kenstar Auster XW so be sure to check that out as well.
What I don’t like
This cooler doesn’t come with an ice tray having a separate ice chamber increase the cooling efficiency by a huge margin. The air delivery is quite good but not great.
The height of the cooler is also very low you must have to buy a stand in order to make it usable. The stand is not included in the package so you have to spare extra bucks from your pocket.
It uses Wood Wool fibre which is also less efficient than the Honeycomb cooling pad and the last thing I don’t like about this cooler is the water indicator, its small in size and usually doesn’t work well.
- large water tank capacity
- 3 Way water inlet
- Good air flow
- The small height you need to buy a stand
- Wood Wool cooling pad – You’ll need to Change the Cooling Pad more Often
6. Bajaj Platini PX97 Torque
The Bajaj Platini PX97 is a great budget cooler which comes in amazing design and builds quality. It features 3-way air cooling and comes with fan design to cover a large area of your room. This is the most energy efficient cooler we found till now, it uses only 100 Watts power which is the same as a normal ceiling fan. This cooler is capable of cooling an area of 150 sq ft.
It features two knobs, one to control the speed up to 3 levels and others to control the swing. It also has plastic wheels so you don’t have to carry is to another room just push it. The wheel makes the job simpler even a child can move it from room to room.
The water tank here is of 36 litres capacity which is good enough and will easily last you for a few days. This Air cooler also operates on an inverter so you can enjoy seamless operation throughout the night. It has something called chill trap technology which traps cool air inside the cooler.
3 Side honeycomb cooling pad for enhanced performance. Four-way air deflection with the Horizontal manual and vertical motorized louvre movement ensure cold air is evenly spread throughout the room. This cooler comes with 1 year of warranty.
What I like
The best thing I liked about this cooler is the power usage, it uses only 100 Watts of power which makes it the best energy efficient air cooler in the entire list. The energy usage here is almost half of the other cooler available at same price.
Another great thing is its design, it has a modern design and will easily blend in any home or office. It has good airflow and throws air up to 30 feet. It has caster wheels so mobility is not an issue here also the height is good enough to reach your bed.
The most important thing is the pricing. The product is priced really well since it is energy efficient it will save you more in the long run.
What I don’t like
There are a few things I don’t like about this Air Cooler. Firstly, the water tank the capacity here is only 36 litres so you might have to fill in water every 2 or 3 days if you keep it running for 12 hrs a day.
It doesn’t have an ice tray you can alternatively drop ice in the water tank but it will not affect that much. The cooling pad used here is of Wool Wool fibre which is not as efficient as Honeycomb fibre.
The cooler is quite good as compared to the price but the cooling speed is almost same for all 3-speed settings. The cooling here is also not that great maybe because of the slow motor and missing ice tray but it gets the job done. The one from Symphony listed below cools better than this.
- Consumes less power
- Works on Inverter
- Great design and build quality
- Budget-friendly
- Wood Wool cooling Pad
- Missing Ice Tray
- Small water tank
7. Crompton Mystique Dlx
The Crompton Mystique is a tower cooler. It comes in a long design blends well with any home or office. It has honeycomb cooling pads which makes it more effective. This cooler is a similar price as the Bajaj Platini and shares very similar specifications. The water tank here is large, its 34 litres and the cooler comes with caster wheels so one can easily move it from one place to another.
It has 4-way air deflection and uses a blower instead of a normal fan design. The blower is more effective than a fan design it traps cold air inside. This cooler has an air-throw up to 35 feet and is capable of cooling an area of 180 sq ft.
Four-way air deflection with the Horizontal manual and vertical motorized louvre movement ensure cold air is evenly spread throughout the room. This cooler comes with 1 year of warranty.
The place where this cooler stands out the most is the size. It takes very low space so you can keep it in any corner even behind another appliance. This cooler is also eco-friendly and energy efficient. The power usage here is 130 Watts which is just a bit high than a normal ceiling fan. The Crompton mystique is also inverter friendly.
What I like
It’s a budget-friendly tower cooler and comes at a very low price. The water tank is decent and can hold up to 34 litres of water. You may have to fill in the water every 3 days. Another great thing is the power usage, the motor used here is of 130 Watts so it won’t burn a hole in your pocket.
Honeycomb cooling pad used here which is another plus point. I have explained the advantages of Honeycomb pads over the normal wood wool pads in the buying guide at the end of the post so make sure to check it out.
It has 2 knobs for speed and swings control while the left and right swing is automatic you have to manually adjust the upper and lower louvres. This cooler can be operated on inverter as well so whether it’s an outrage or something else you don’t need to worry about.
What I don’t like
I don’t really like the design over here according to some reviews we figured it out that it has very poor build quality. The materials are not good and it also has a water leakage problem. The tower design air cooler comes with smaller air vents which allow lesser air to flow through it. If you decide to use it in your bedroom then it’s not a good choice. It’s only good enough for a single person.
The water tank is also small it can hold only up to 34 litres of water considering the size it could have been better. It also doesn’t come with an ice tray.
- Inverter friendly
- Honey Comb cooling pads for better efficiency
- Budget-friendly comes at a low price
- Caster wheels for easy mobility
- Poor Build Quality, low quality plastic used.
- No ice tray
- Small water tank only 34 litres.
8. Symphony Kaizen
The Symphony Kaizen is a smaller sized air cooler which comes with a water capacity of 41 litres. The design is boxed shaped and requires a stand or you can just put it on a table. To be honest my friend owns this cooler there is nothing much to like about it.
It has Cool flow dispenser and Large cooling pad area for superior cooling. Horizontal manual and vertical motorized louvre movement ensure cold air is evenly spread throughout the room.
The air flow is decent it goes up to 30 feet. Well, this cooler is the most energy efficient. It has a 95-watt motor. The cooler has a blower design and the cooling pad is covered with a mosquito net. There are two controllable knobs, one for swing and other for speed.
There is one more variant of this cooler available Symphony Kaizen Jr with a smaller water tank at a much cheaper price, you can check that out too. This cooler comes with 1 year of warranty.
What I like
After using it for a year there are a few things which I liked about this air cooler. Firstly the air throw, at high speed this cooler has really great air throw. It can cool an area up to 30 feets this cooler is good enough for 3-4 people.
This cooler is well priced. You can get it around Rs 5,000 and even lower during sales. It has a mosquito net and dust filter to keep mosquito and small insects outside.
This cooler consumes lesser energy than a normal ceiling fan so you can operate it throughout the night without worrying about your electricity bill.
What I don’t like
Trust me! This cooler makes a lot of noise. Even at low speed, the noise is very high. The noise is just like a Hairdryer blowing air on your face. So best in mind, if you have small children then it won’t let them sleep.
It doesn’t have an ice tray which is a bummer. The height of this cooler is very small you must use a stand in order to raise its height. Keep in mind there is no stand included in the package so you have to spend extra money from your pocket.
Filling water is also a mess here most of the time half of the water drops on the floor so you should be careful while filling water in this air cooler. Lastly, the water indicator used here is complete crap. It doesn’t work most of the time and you have to use a torch in order to check the water level.
- Budget-friendly, very low price tag.
- Energy efficient, only 95 Watts motor.
- Large water tank capacity holds 41 litres of water.
- Small height, you have to buy a stand.
- This cooler makes a lot of noise.
- Poor Water indicator level
- No ice tray
9. Orient Electric Smartcool Dx
A personal air cooler from Orient Electric, it features a 20-litre water tank. The design here is great it comes with a dual colored design and will easily blend in any home.
It has 4 ways and 360-degree air deflection along with Horizontal manual and vertical motorized louvre movement which ensure cold air is evenly spread throughout the room. and the cooling area is up to 150 sq feet. There are three controls settings High, medium and low. The Smartcool Dx from orient electric can throw the air up to 25 feet. This cooler is also energy efficient you can easily operate it on your inverter.
This cooler comes with Honeycomb cooling pads which is great at this price point. Honeycomb pads are 25% more efficient than the normal Aspen wooden fibre cooling pads. It also comes with a remote control so you don’t need to get out of your bed each time you want to operate it.
It also comes with a remote control for easier operation and it comes with 1 year of warranty.
What I like
This air Cooler is priced very low which makes it budget friendly so if you are on a budget looking for a good personal air cooler then you should grab this one. It is also remote controlled so you can easily turn it on or off and control the speed from your bed itself. The water indicator level is also big so you can easily monitor the current water level in it.
It Honeycomb Honeycomb cooling pad which is very less seen in budget air coolers. Having a honeycomb cooling pads makes it more efficient also you don’t have to change or replace the cooling pad more often. It also has an overflow hole and fragrance chamber. You can use a fragrance so it will blow fresh and clean air every time.
It has Caster wheels so mobility is not a problem here in this cooler. The wheels are made of plastic. It has a blower design which is widely seen in smaller air coolers the air deflection is not so good but good enough for a single person. It also has a mosquito net covering the cooling pad to keep insects and mosquito out.
What I don’t like
The water tank here is very small it can hold only 20 litres of water. Having low water capacity means you have to fill the water almost every day if you decide to keep it running for 12hrs a day.
This air cooler has a very Small height. It won’t even reach your bed level. Buying a stand for this type of air cooler is also difficult. You will need a stool type of stand in order to raise it above your bed height or its completely useless for your bedroom.
The air throw here is also very low it can throw air up to 20 feet only. The air deflection is also not so good. I recommend it only if you’re looking forward to using it for a single person.
- Good design looks modern and attractive.
- Caster Wheels for easy mobility.
- Remote controlled for easy operation.
- Mosquito net to keep the air clean.
- Overflow hole for fragrance.
- The small height you have to buy a stand.
- Small water tank capacity only 20 litres.
- Only recommended for a single person or small room.
10. Symphony Ice Cube
The Symphony Ice cube is a big sized water cooler with a water capacity of 27 litres. It’s good for family use and you don’t have to refill water daily. If you decide to run it daily for 12 hrs then you can fill in water every 2 or 3 days. The air flow is decent and covers an area of up to 165 sq feet. If it’s a small room then it will cool it easily.
The motor runs on 105 Watts power supply which is same as that of a normal ceiling fan so you can have an overnight operation with this one without worrying about your monthly bill. 3-side high-efficiency honeycomb cooling pads along with Horizontal and vertical motorized louvre movement which ensure cold air is evenly spread throughout the room.
The Symphony Ice cube has bacteria and smell filter so you get fresh air every time. It also has strong caster wheels for easy mobility. This is my second best favourite after the Bajaj Platini Air cooler. This cooler comes with 1 year of warranty.
What I like
The best thing I liked about this cooler is the price, the price comes well under Rs 6,500 and it’s the second best cooler you can get in this budget. This cooler has a good height so even if you decide to use it in your bedroom it won’t be an issue, it will always be above your bed level.
The wheels here are strong. Some cooler which comes with cheap plastic wheels usually have worst performance, you have to move them 2 or 3 times to make it work.
Another good thing is the 3 sides high efficient cooling pad, the cooling pads used here are honeycomb. Lastly, the automatic verticle louvres. Not all coolers support automatic verticle louvres, in fact, this is the only one in our list. Normally you have to move the verticle louvres manually but here it’s automatic.
What I don’t like
The water tank here is small, it is 27 litres one so every 2 or 3 days you have to fill water in it before use. The air delivery here is good and only recommended for a small room, if you have a big room then you might have to pull it much closer to you.
Don’t go on the name, the name is Ice cube but it doesn’t come with an ice tray which is disappointing. Lastly, the water inlet here is very small you have to be careful while filling the water in you should better buy a water pipe so your floor won’t go wet.
- Less power usage only 105 Watts
- Automatic verticle swing.
- No ice tray
- Small Water tank only 27 litres capacity.
Are air coolers effective?
If you are trying to beat the heat during the hot summer days and on a low budget then Air Coolers really gets the job done. As said before an air cooler tries to replace an Ac in a more affordable and effective way.
Air coolers also are known as evaporation coolers brings hot air inside through the cooling pads and the water takes up the heat so the temperature of the air thus decreases. It has a pump which then passes the water down the cooling pads. This low-temperature air is then blown into your room making it colder.
As said before an Air Cooler will not cool your entire room like an AC, for example, the person sitting behind the Air Cooler will not feel any cold air even if you keep it running for 6 to 7 hours. So yeah! Air Coolers are effective but only in a certain area of the room.
Advantages of Air Cooler
Air Cooler Costs less – You can Buy an Air Cooler instead of Ac at a very less price. If your budget is low and can’t afford an AC worth 25,000 or 30,000 then you can spend just 5,000 to 12,000 and get an Air Cooler which will get the job done.
Less power consumption – An Air Cooler consumes just a bit more than a Fan and huge less as compared to Air Conditioner. A Fan consumes around 110 W power, an Air Cooler consumes around 180 W and AC consumes around 2000 W power.
Portability – Almost all of the Air Coolers are portable and can be easily moved from one room to another. That’s the best thing about an Air Cooler you can keep and move it anywhere.
Disadvantages of Air Cooler-
Air Cooler doesn’t go well with the humid area – If humidity at your place is more then cooler isn’t suitable for you. Humid Area means where there is more moisture in the air. It sprays water so doesn’t go well with the humid area even if you buy the expensive one from the well-recognized brand. At such a place, you still have to use an AC.
Maintenance – Air Cooler requires more maintenance. You have to fill water and ice almost every day before use. It also needed to be cleaned from time to time.
Air Cooler makes lots of noise – Most of the air cooler create a loud noise and if you are trying to focus on something then bear in mind, it will disturb you a lot. This day the newer model makes less noise but still enough to draw your attention.
How effective is a cooler in various temperatures?
The air cooler works on the process of evaporation and it works best in the hot and dry day. In an air cooler, the air on the outside is passed over the wet cooling pad and because of the transfer of heat from the air to water the temperature of air decreases. The water then evaporates and more the water evaporates the cooler the air will be. The evaporation process totally depends on the amount of water (Humidity) which is already present in the air. In case the amount of water which is present in the air is less than more evaporation will happen. Air can only hold water to a certain extent so if the air is already humid then it won’t hold more water and very less evaporation will happen.
That’s why on a hot and dry day the water inside the Air cooler evaporates more and cools the surrounding much better. Below is the Relative Humidity vs Air Temperature. Here you can clearly see if the humidity in the air is at 20% and the outside air temperature is 95 Fahrenheit then the air cooler can cool the air up to 74 Fahrenheit. The more humidity in the air increases the lesser the air cooler will be effective and vice versa.
How to choose the Best Air Cooler in India?
No matter wherever you live, you should be prepared for the hottest summer days. Buying the best Air Cooler in India is not a Child’s play after all its an investment of more than 2 years. I am still using the air cooler bought 3.5 years ago so you must buy the perfect one which will last you for years.
If you are replacing your old Air Cooler then I guess you already know what your previous air cooler had missed and must be experienced enough to make your own decision but if you are a new buyer then you can follow the buying guide below.
There are a lot of things you should consider before making a decision. Below is the buying guide to assist you better.
1. Branded or Non-Branded
If you are in the market looking for an Air cooler then you will surely end up with a lot of brands. The major difference between branded and non-branded brands is quality and service. Most of the popular brands provide great quality products and amazing after sell service.
You just don’t want the brand to stop responding you once their Air Coolers dies. Always make sure to go for a well-recognized brand and check out warranty information. A well-recognized brand will assist you better and most of the time they will come to your house and fix it over there not the same case with unknown brands where you manually have to carry your Air Cooler to their service centre.
All of the Air Cooler listed here are from Well recognized brands only so you can make the purchase without worrying about it. I Personally own two air cooler from these brands.
2. Budget
Budget plays an important role here. The best Air Cooler in India you can get starts from Rs 5,000 and goes to Rs 12,000 and above. You can get great Air Coolers from well-recognized brands in this range. The Higher water tank capacity you look for the higher the price you have to pay. Well, in my opinion, anything around 30 to 50 litres is great you can easily get one between Rs 6,000 to Rs 9,000.
The most important thing! Wait for a Sale, during sale season it’s online or offline you can easily get around 25% discount which will save you a lot of bucks. So don’t hurry up, wait for a sale and keep watching the price. You must also take care of a few other things listed below.
3. Power Consumption
You can’t run a cooler for free. Obviously, you have to pay monthly electricity bills to keep the cooler up and running. Always check for power usage before buying an Air cooler. The lower the Watts mentioned the lesser the electricity it will consume. A normal ceiling fan consumes about 100 Watts of energy while an energy efficient cooler consumes around 200 W. Anything between 160 W to 220 W is great. You can check out power usage on the side of the cooler and in the product description as well.
For icing on the cake, you can buy one which is compatible with Inverter as well. Most of the Air Cooler these days are compatible with Inverter but make sure to double check it.
4. Air Cooler Size
The size of the cooler matters a lot. You must buy one which fits perfectly in your space. The most important thing is to buy an Air Cooler with adequate height which will be able to throw the air to your body level. The advantage of this is when you are laying on your bed if your cooler doesn’t reach above your bed level then its a complete waste.
There are few sizes and design in which Air Cooler comes, one is the box-shaped design and the other is the Tall tower-like design. You can always buy a separate stand for the boxed size cooler to raise its height. I strongly recommend you to first measure what size you need and then make a purchase.
5. Type
There are three types of Air Cooler available in the market.
- Personal Cooler
- Desert Cooler
- Tower Cooler
All different types are suitable for different environments.
A personal air cooler or room cooler is suitable for a small room, it comes with a blower instead of normal fans and also costs much less. The personal cooler is small in size so you can place them anywhere like your kitchen, dining room, and bedroom. Also, personal cooler allows easy mobility, it comes with caster wheels so you can easily move them anywhere. A personal cooler commonly has a water capacity of 20 to 70 litres. It also uses much lesser electricity than a desert cooler thus making it much more suitable for household use.
A desert cooler is suitable for a medium to the large sized room, it comes with a fan design to blow the air more effectively and also costs more than a Personal Cooler. It has a water capacity of about 60 to 70 litres. The desert cooler also needs to be mounted on your window so it draws the air from the outside. You just can’t move it from room to room which makes it more suitable to halls, restaurant, office, and hotel use. A desert cooler also uses much more energy than a normal room cooler so if you need extreme cooling performance then you can opt for a desert cooler.
Lastly, the Tower cooler comes with a tower like design which is suitable for a hall or office area. It is meant for very small space. It blows air at a certain height or in two directions so you have to keep it in a corner of the room. A tower cooler is commonly used in office space, and kids room. It also costs high and not widely used in houses so we choose to include only one of these in the list.
6. Room Size
All air cooler mentions cooling area on their label or in the description. Buy an air cooler which is suitable for your room, you can measure your room size and check if the cooler is suitable enough or not. You should not expect the cooler to cool your entire room always measure the certain area which is needed to be cooled.
Before investing in an air cooler it is very important to know the right area you want your cooler to cool. For this, we are going to do a simple calculation.
Air delivery or air displacement ( in CFM) = Area of room in square feet x (height of your room) /2
Formula to calculate Air delivery in CFM
So if your room is 200 square feet in area and your ceiling or roof is 7 feet in height according to the formula then it will be
Air delivery = 200 x 7 / 2 = 700 cubic feet/min but we need to convert it in meters/hours because most of the air cooler these days use these terms.
1 cubic metre/hour = 1.699 x 1 CFM so in our case it will be 1.699 x 700 = 1189 cubic meters / hours
So there you go! now you know the exact size of the area you needed to be cooled. You can check the value in the product description.
7. Cooling Pads
You can either go for a cooler with Honeycomb cooling pads or the one with Aspen Wood Wool or Wooden fibre. The Honeycomb cooling pads are made up of cellulose-like material and are expensive than the normal Wood Wool cooling pad. The Wood Wool cooling pad is made up of shaving synthetic fibres from wood and looks like grass.
Honeycomb cooling pad are expensive, more efficient, requires less maintenance, and is highly durable. The Honeycomb pads are 25% more efficient than Aspen wooden fibre cooling pads.
Wood Wool cooling pads are not expensive but requires more maintenance, not so efficient and also not so durable.
8. Ice cube tray
Some cooler some with a separate ice compartment when you can add some ice cubes and it will increase the efficiency of the cooling. The pump inside the cooler pumps the water through the ice compartment thus making the water colder before dropping it on the cooling pads. Then the cooling pads get cold and it also cools all the air passing through it. So having an ice tray is very important in an air cooler.

Ans – Yes, the leftover water inside the Air cooler attracts mosquitoes and small insects so after not using it for a while it produces bad odour and smell. You can prevent this by draining all the water from air cooler when it’s not in use and use a fragrance to reduce the smell.
Q – Which air cooler is a better fan or blower type?
Ans – Both are equally good but the fan type provides more air throw while in all small air coolers we see the blower type cooling. The blower type cooler is more effective but only for a small room or single person use.
Tips for better working of Air Coolers
Here are some of the self-tested method you can follow to make the air cooler more effective.
1. Always allow for cross ventilation. In simple words, don’t fully close your windows or door. You should keep the windows open so fresh air can enter your room. You can also place the back of the cooler facing the window to help it cool the room faster.
2. Add Ice in the cooler or water. Most of the air cooler these days comes with an ice tray. You can fill in some ice and it will help your cooler to lower the temperature even more. If your cooler doesn’t have an ice compartment then you can also add ice to the water. You should also make sure to add only an adequate amount of ice. Adding more ice may result in the slow down of the evaporation process.
3. Clean the cooler every now and then. You should clean the cooler regularly to ensure it gives fresh air every time. If you don’t use the cooler for a longer period of time then it may produce a foul smell. So you can get it cleaned or add some fragrance before using it again. You should also clean the cooling pads of cooler for it’s better performance.
4. Let the pump run while the tank is being filled with water. This will make sure the soaks some of the water beforehand. To do this you can turn off the cooler fan by setting the speed setting to Zero (0) so only the pump will work while you are filling the water. Once the tank is filled you can run the fan.

Hi, Akshay I have several questions which I want you to cover. First of all, I work in front of a computer for straight 7 to 9 hours. I am confused between an air cooler and an air conditioner. The air conditioner will consume a lot of electricity as it is a very long duration. What do you think will be better? Also, I have heard that Air cooler creates humidity in the air. Do you think using an air cooler in a room which has electrical appliances will be a good idea?
Hey, as your room is on the terrace you can get a window air cooler. This will be much better in terms of cooling and yes air cooler adds humidity in the air. An Air Conditioner is always recommended when you have a lot of electrical appliances in your room
Hello, Kamal here. I have three rooms which I want to be cooled. The biggest one is 500 sq ft and the rest two are 250 sq ft and 200 sq ft. The bigger room is a living room where I have a tv and spend most of my time. In bedroom I had Ac installed and when in a case of a power outage the Ac turns off so i am thinking to shift the Ac to the drawing room and get an air cooler for the bedroom. Looking for the best recommendation from you. Kindly help me, thanks.
Hi Kamal, That’s a great idea, but if your ac is new then it might come with smart inverter feature so you can keep using it during power cuts. else you can buy air cooler that will also be great for you. Take a look at Symphony Siesta and Crompton Greaves Ozone. There are some other recommendations as well.
I just saw that there are a lot of tower fans which are available in the market. They claim that they will cool the room but I don’t get it. How will a tower fan cool the room? if it really can, will an air cooler cool the room without adding water to it?
No, the tower fan will not cool the air. If will just move the air from one part of the room to another part. I don’t recommend getting it if you want cooling performance from it. Air Cooler works on the principle of evaporation and it requires water to add humidity in the air.
I have a low budget of 6000 INR please suggest me the best air cooler I can get. My room size is approx 200 sq feet and I want the latest technology possible. Thanks
Hey, there are a lot of options in our list which are below 6000 RS, you can check them out. As your room is small, you can go for some small options like Kenstar Cyclone.
Thank you for this great guide, sir. Really appreciated. I want your recommendation on the Crompton Ozone Air Cooler, is it the best one for a room size of 200 sq ft? Or is there any other option. What say? Thank you.
The Crompton Greaves Ozone is a very good air cooler. It can easily cool a room size of 400 sq ft and above easily. So it won’t be a problem as your room is comparatively smaller. Go get it.
Hello, how is kustec hydrogen air cooler? I am getting this air cooler offline at a good price.
Hey, I haven’t heard about this brand so I am really sorry that I can’t help you with that. But I would recommend you to always go for a reputed brand so you get good after sale service.
Respected Sir, I already purchased a air cooler from offline market. The company name is Mentek and the air cooler water tank capacity is 70 litres. I live in Maharashtra and here the humidity level is quite high. Did I made the perfect choice by going for this air cooler?

Yeah, it will be fine. As you have got the cooling pad cleaned just open the air cooler and use a water pipe to clean the water tank. You can also clean the motor if you want.

Evaporative air cooler and the desert air cooler is the same thing. The name evaporative suggest the way it works. Air cooler adds humidity in the air. You can read the article we have already included the working of an air cooler. You can check it out.

I want something reliable and ready to spend a bit more if the product is great. Other than air cooler and air conditioner if there is any other product which can beat the heat then pl
You can check our list there are a lot of air coolers available with Ice chamber and humidity control feature and we have already included some of them. Other than Air Cooler and Air Conditioner you can get a Table fan but that will not be as reliable as an Air Cooler or an Air Conditioner.
Hey there. My room size is quite big. It has three beds. I am wondering if the Bajaj Air Cooler with model number SB2003 will be okay for cooling the entire room? Or Should I take the Thunder mode from Maharaja Whiteline? I want something which has around 150 W power consumption.
Hello Ravish. I just checked, the Bajaj Air Cooler is pretty nice and you can go for it. Alternatively, you can check out Symphony Siesta, Symphony Kaizen, and Orient Electric Smart Cool Dx. There are more of these air coolers which requires less watt power.
The air cooler which is going to be used in the bedroom does it’s height really matters? Is the upper part from where the air comes out should be above my bed level? I am confused.
Yes indeed. Keep it close to the bed and make sure the height is above your bed level. Check the Air Cooler height in the product description and measure your bed to make sure it is above your bed level.
Hello Akshay, I need advice. I live in Goa and in an apartment. My floor is on the very top and there’s terrace just above it which makes it very hot during night time. My room is 50 sq ft and the ceiling height is 10 ft. Please suggest. Thanks

Hello, I have a close eye on the Orient Outdoor Desert Air Cooler. This Air Cooler is made out of metal and has a different kind of HoneyComb pad than the normal one as stated by the company. Should I go for it?
Outdoor air coolers work with better efficiency and most of the outdoor air cooler comes with a metal body. If you want more cooling performance then you can go for it. but keep in mind that they require more maintenance than the indoor desert air cooler.
Hi, Akshay live in Bangalore and I am looking forward to buying an Air Cooler for a 170 Sq ft room. Please help me locate the best brand and the best air cooler available. I want good after sale service
Hi Altaf You can check out Symphony Siesta, Kenstar Cyclone, Bajaj Platini. These are some of the best Air Cooler brands and the most value for money air cooler available. If the brand is very popular then it will surely have good after sale service.
Hey, What you think about voltas Air Coolers? I am getting a locally made air cooler for around 3 to 4000. Should I choose the locally made air cooler over the Branded online air coolers?
Voltas makes some great air coolers. Locally made air coolers are mostly made of metal and that has an issue of corrosion and rusting. I recommend you to get a branded air cooler they will have better cooling efficiency. You can check the list to get a better idea and also check the buying guide to help you make the perfect buying decision.
I want to buy an Air Cooler to completely replace the Air Conditioner in my home. I want it to cool my entire house in the hot summer months. The minimum and maximum I can spend is 6000 to 15000 INR. Please help me.
.Dear Akshay Sir, I live in Vidarbha which falls in Maharashtra. The water here is hard and the temperature usually reaches above 40 degrees Celsius. Please guide me what Air Cooler brand should I pick? I have shortlisted some of them:- Symphony, Crompton, Bajaj, or some self-made local Air Coolers also my room size is approx 400 sq ft. Please help me, Thanks.
I am looking forward to buying an air cooler. I have visited some stores and shortlisted these few models. Hindware Snowcrest and the Crompton Desert. Please help me to pick the best one between these two.
The Hindware Snowcrest Air Cooler seems great while the air delivery is better on the Crompton air cooler. In terms of cooling performance, Hindware wins. Both of these Air Coolers are good for a large room though I would recommend Hindware based on Consumer reviews.
Hi, I have an air cooler inside my room as we don’t have any space outside the window and the issue here is it is creating a lot of humidity inside the room. We also can’t keep the doors and window open all the time because of mosquitoes. Please suggest me an air cooler which doesn’t create humidity in the room so I can keep them inside my room easily.
All coolers work the same. They will increase humidity in the air. You can avoid that. Alternatively, you can switch to an Air Conditioner if you want
Right now I live in Chennai and the Humidity level here is quite high. So I a using an Air Conditioner for my room and I am not feeling comfortable sleeping in that. I face nose surge issue with cold and I am also sleeping way away to the blower still I face those issues. Should I switch over to the Air Cooler? will it help me to solve those problems?
Air Cooler is simply not suitable for an area where there is high humidity. Only an Air Conditioner is preferable. If you have any kind of issues with the Air Conditioner then avoid using it or move it to a different room. You can try switching to an Air Cooler but that will work just like a normal fan and won’t cool your room.
Sir, Kindly help me with the proper information about the various noise level produced by all the air cooler in your list. Thanks.
Hi Mahendra, Brands do not like to share the proper information about the noise level. This makes us very difficult to gather the correct information but we tried our best to include some of them by scraping through the consumer reviews.
I have read your complete article and found that there’s a lot of useful information here. I would like you to add about the storage of air cooler when it’s not in use. Storing the air cooler is also a problem and especially when we have more than one air cooler. Please suggest where should we store the air cooler in the winter and rainy season. Another thing I want to ask about is should we buy a branded air cooler online or from an offline store.
Hey Danish, Thanks for the compliment. You can store the air cooler in a storeroom or in a corner of any room. Do not expose the air cooler to nature and also try to cover it with a small cloth which will prevent dust to enter inside. You can buy the air cooler from anywhere you want. Just compare the price and see where you are getting a good deal.
Hello Akshay Sir, Good evening. I recently bought the Symphony Tower Air Cooler and the model name is 70i. The air cooler costed my a whooping 16000rs and it turned out to be not
Hi Pratibha. It might be a very difficult task for you to get the air cooler returned. You can visit the store again and check if they have a return policy. I can’t promise that but you can try from your side.
Which Air Cooler type is best according to you? Fan or Blower. Another thing is there any major difference if I buy an air cooler which is taller or the one which is wider. I am currently living in a town near Mumbai where the stores offer a company like Vago and Combrade are they good? if not then suggest me something which is good for a room of 150 sq ft.
The blower type creates less pressure and produces air flow in a large volume thus it covers more area, on the other hand, the fan type produces less airflow but large volume. Though I have not heard about the brand Vago and Comrade, the choice completely depends on you. If you are not getting any other brand then you have to go with them. A taller air cooler will give air flow at a height so if your bed level is high you can go with the taller one other than that there is no major difference. Lastly, Air coolers are not suitable for an area like Mumbai as there is a high humidity level.
Hello Akshay Ji, I currently live in Noida and I am looking for an air cooler to use in my room. Please suggest me the best air cooler which I can buy. The water tank capacity should be near 50 liters and the price should be under 12000.
Hi Rakesh, I think you are looking for a personal air cooler. You can go with Symphony Siesta, Crompton Greaves Ozone, or the Maharaja Whiteline Arrow Dlx Co. These are some good air cooler and perfectly fits in your requirements. Go check them out.
Hi Akshay Sir, Can you kindly suggest me a desert air cooler for a large room. Space is around 500 sq ft and I am looking for a metal body.
Hi, these days people are switching over to the plastic body as it’s lightweight and you also don’t have the risk of getting electric shock so I recommend you to skip the metal-air cooler and get a large air cooler which will be good enough for a 500 sq ft room. You can take a look at the Crompton Greaves Ozone or the Bajaj Platini Torque.
My living room size is about 240 square feet, and I use my air cooler for almost 4 to 5 hours a day. In the past few months, I have noticed that electricity consumption is around 5 Units per day just for the Air Cooler. is it high? if yes then what could be wrong?
Hello Rakesh, 5 Units per day for an Air Cooler is definitely high. There might be some issue with your Air Cooler. I recommend you to get it checked by the technician.
I have seen a lot of air cooler doesn’t even have the information rating on them which gives a clear idea of how much power and electricity it consumes. Also, I have not seen a lot of them don’t have a BEE rating. Another thing is the water pump used are said to be ISI motor as per the manufacturer but is there any way to really check this and confirm by yourself?
Hello Anupam, Right now, there is no BEE rating system available for Air Coolers So Air Coolers can’t be BEE rated. Also if the Water pump is ISI rated then the manufacturer will surely brag about it and add a label on the Air Cooler.
Air Coolers does not come with an inbuilt stabilizer facility. So in case, I want to run a cooler at low voltage then I might have to use a voltage stabilizer along with it right ?So can I use any stabilizer that works perfectly for the refrigerator, for the air cooler?
Air Coolers does not come with an inbuilt stabilizer facility. So in case, I want to run a cooler at low voltage then I might have to use a voltage stabilizer along with it right ?So can I use any stabilizer that works perfectly for the refrigerator, for the air cooler?
Currently, In my house, I face a lot of low voltage problem, the voltage remains around 110-140 Watts So, Please suggest me a good air cooler which will run perfectly in this low voltage range.
Hi Akansha, Symphony Kaizen, Symphony Ice Cube are some valuable options you can consider if your house has any kind of voltage problem. These air cooler consumes around 90 to 140 Watts power supply so you are good to go with them.
Hi Akshay, I Just wanted to ask you about the performance of Crompton Optimus 100 air cooler and is there any valuable competitor available in this range? Though I am getting a deal of 10,500 for Crompton Optimus 100.
Currently, In my house, I face a lot of low voltage problem, the voltage remains around 110-140 Watts So, Please suggest me a good air cooler which will run perfectly in this low voltage range.
Dear Akshay Sir (Admin) Ji, Please inform me about window air coolers which are having auto water fill feature and the room size doesn’t matter.
I have no idea if there really any air cooler which has auto water fill capacity but I think there is not a lot of air cooler available with has this feature. Alternatively, I would suggest you to use a water pipe to fill the water tank. This saves a lot of time and hassle.
Hello Akshay, I am very curious about something please let me know is the power consumption of an air cooler with 85 liters water capacity and 50 liters are the same or not??
Hi Rahul, Are you referring to the same air cooler with two different water capacity? If yes then they probably have the same power consumption otherwise the power consumption totally depends on two factors, the motor, and the fan design. That’s why power consumption varies from model to model.
Dear Akshay, I am living in an area which lies in Bundelkhand where the temperature stays near 44 degree Celsius and above during the hot summer months, now based on your information what air cooler should I choose? Please guide me.
I would recommend you to go for a big air cooler which has a large fan or blower. You can go with the Symphony Siesta or the Bajaj Platini or the Crompton Greeves Ozone. These air cooler will provide you the good cooling which you need for an area like Bundelkhand
Is there any other desert air cooler which is available in the market which has more than 5500 m3/h air delivery just as we have seen in the Crompton Optimus 100? also, I want the same water tank capacity which is 100 liters.
There are a lot of air coolers which gives a good air flow such as the Crompton Greeves. It also has a good water tank capacity. So you can undoubtedly choose the Crompton Greeves over the Crompton Optimus 100.
Hi Akshay. I am looking for something which can replace the Crompton Optimus 100. The most important thing I need is a remote feature. Also, it should create less noise than Optimus. Looking forward to your recommendation, thanks?
Hi Rahul, The Crompton Optimus 100 is a very good air cooler but it comes at an expensive price. To replace it I would suggest you go for the Kenstar Cyclone 12. It comes at a much lesser price and also creates less noise than the Crompton Optimus.
I found two Air Cooler from Bajaj. Bajaj Platini and Bajaj Torque can you suggest which one is better? Also which one is better One side cooling pad or 3 side cooling pad? Lastly which cooling pad is good?
Ans. They are very similar model. Bajaj Platini and Bajaj Torque the major difference will be the Water tank capacity. One has a smaller tank while the other one has a quite big tank. The Honeycomb cooling pad is much better and If you have 3 side cooling pad then the cooler will have a great cooling efficiency.
Which type of Air Cooler is great for Cooling Purpose. Please suggest me the best one also it should be low on maintenance.
Your air cooler has a water pump which pumps the water onto the cooling pad. It might be possible that your motor has stopped working and is not pumping water anymore. That also makes adding water to the cooler useless. Another issue might be with the cooling pad, if it’s too old then get it changed.
Great Article Akshay. I already bought a air cooler without reading this article now i am facing a major problem. The air cooler i bought turned out to be very low in height it does not reaches above my bed level. How can i over come this problem?
Yes it’s true that Air conditioner consumes a lot of electricity and the monthly bill will be high. Also note that Air Cooler increases humidity in the air and if your electrical appliances are okay and good to go with Humidity then you can prefer using it. Otherwise the only choice will be the Air Conditioner. Do some research before making a decision
How is Symphony as a Air Cooler brand? I am getting a Symphony Air cooler at a very low price. Should i go for it or look for any other brand?
Exactly what are you referring to? If you are talking about fan type or blower type then both has it’s own advantages and disadvantages. The fan type gives more air volume while the Blower type can throw the air to a greater distance. You can take a look on the Kenstar Cyclone, it is one of the best cooler.
Dear Akshay, I have an inverter in my home. It’s from luminous. I want to know does Air Coolers works fine on the inverter? If yes then is there any specific requirement?
Yes, Dear, Air Coolers works fine even on Inverter so you won’t have any issues with that. There is no special requirement on any inverter it will work just fine.
Hello, I am wondering if I can use an air cooler along with a dehumidifier to tackle the high humidity problem? I live in Hooghly which is near Kolkata and here the climate is very humid
Air cooler works on the principle of evaporation. Where it adds more humidity in the air in order to cool it. So I think this is not the proper solution to overcome the humidity problem. I think there is no way to make the cooler work for a humid climate and the Dehumidifier will make the situation even worse. So avoid it and buy an Air Conditioner for a humid area.
Dear Akshay Sir. My room size is around 400 sq ft and I am looking forward to buying an Air Cooler. My Question here is what Air Cooler body will be good? Metal body or a Plastic Body and Which Air Cooler Pad is better? Honeycomb one or Wood Wool one? Please help me with an appropriate suggestion.
Hello, The Metal Body Air Cooler performs good and has better cooling overall but the metal body and water always have corrosion issue. You can use Anti Corrosion protection but nowadays you get to see Plastic body more coming to the market. Honeycomb cooling pad is generally better as it requires less maintenance.
Dear Admin Ji, I see that all the air coolers online has low ratings such as 3.5 stars or below. Why So? Please clear my doubts.
Almost all electrical appliances have some issues and when you have feedback options people tend to change their rating when they get a problem. Or in fact, they rate them low if it doesn’t come over their expectation. That’s the reason why most of the appliance online has low user feedback ratings.
Hello, I live in a place where the humidity level is around 50%. Can you help me to find the best one for a 200 sq ft room? Hows Kenstar Cyclone btw?
As stated before, Air Cooler doesn’t work perfectly where there is high humidity in the air. However, 50% Humidity is not that high so I think air cooler will work just fine for you. Kenstar Cyclone is a really great choice. It comes with some amazing features which are less seen in other Air Coolers.
Hi Sir, I live in Delhi and my flat is on the top floor. There is terrace just above my Roof and the room is open from 3 sides. This causes heat to come in from all over the place. Hence I am looking for an air cooler to use in my living room. The size is near 250 sq ft. Please help me with proper recommendation. However, I have a closer look at the Havells Freddo, how is it?
Havells makes some great Air Cooler. The Freddo from Havells is very expensive and is quite big for a room size of 250 sq ft. If you want to go for it then you can surely go ahead but to save some bucks you can check out other options from our list.
While browsing through the web I came around a new air cooler called Symphony Cloud. It looks much like a Split Ac. What’s your thought on this? Whether it’s effective and worth the price?
Hey, I have checked Symphony Cloud. It certainly looks like a Split Ac but it is not as effective as an Ac, it will work just like a normal air cooler. The only difference here is it hangs on your wall just like an Ac saving you some Space. If can definitely go for it if you are looking for such kind of Air Coolers.
Hi, Sir. How are Nagpur Air Coolers? They have different functionality. You have to put the water in a tray like containers and the cooling units fit right in the tray. Are they produce more cool air than a normal desert cooler? Can I choose them over the brands listed in your article?
Hi Prashsant, I guess you are talking about RAM Coolers right? RAM makes some great Air Coolers. But the main thing is they try to cover the offline market more and doesn’t sell much of their Air Cooler online. They provide great cooling and most suitable to put near windows.
Hi Akshay, I heard about a new air Cooler series from Symphony. Basically, the new model comes in a touching series. Touch 35 and Touch 55. I have also heard that their Fan type system is much different from regular dessert coolers.
Yes, the new Touch Series from Symphony is great. What makes it different from others is that they have touch controls instead of the normal button and knob controls. It has a digital touch screen and voice assistant too. So you can use your voice to control the Air Cooler. Lastly, it has a blower type system which is already there in many other so it is not new.
Hi Dear, I live in Thane and the humidity level here is around 50%. Though it is not near the sea. I already have an Air Conditioner in my room. The room size is about 150 sq ft. I feel hot even in AC due to my husband. He has health issues and he also doesn’t like a ceiling fan. So I was thinking to switch over to an Air Cooler and use them together.
Hi Ramanan, I would not recommend you to use Air Cooler and Air Conditioner together. They both have different working principle. Air Conditioner removes Humidity from the air while Air Cooler adds humidity in the air. I hope you get it. I would recommend you to get a Table fan instead.
Nice article. However, I am wondering if I can get an air cooler for a 400 sq ft room. Here in Nagpur, an offline brand is sold mostly. The name is Bay Breeze and it comes in a metallic body. Should I go for it? I am curious if they have any electric shock issue.
Hi Aniket. If you provide a good earthing to the air cooler then you won’t face any electric shock issue. make sure the air cooler plug has 3 pins. If it’s 2 pins then you might face earthing and electric shock issue.
Hello Sir,Please help me to find the best air cooler for Chennai. Here are all the features which I need: Humidity Control, Water level Indicator, Ice Chamber and Remote. Please help me asap as I can’t install an AC in my home.
Hey, take a look at the Kenstar Cyclone. It has almost all the features you need. If you can’t install an AC in your room then you can also take a look at other options in the list.
Dear Sir, I do a business of selling mangoes and hence I want to use the air cooler to ripe mangoes. Also, my room size is around 300 sq ft. Suggest me the best model which has Humidity control.
I don’t think an Air Cooler is recommended for riping mangoes also i don’t know how these things work. You should go for an Air Conditioner instead if you want the temperature to be low.
Hello, My room height is 12M and the room size is around 150 sq ft. There is no window in my room and doors which directly faces the outside. Please help me to find an air cooler which works even without outside air.
I don’t think Air Cooler will be Good for your Room. You can try a Split Ac or you can choose a Split Air Cooler. There are new air coolers from Symphony and some other brands which hang on the walls just like a Split Ac. So give it a try.
Dear Mr. Lal, I appreciate all your efforts which you can put in to create this amazing article. I live in Kochi Kerala and the Humidity here is 80% + I need an air cooler for the time being as my room is getting renovated which has the AC. Lastly, Please add a PayPal account here so we can contribute anything as a token of appreciation.
Hi pawan, Air Coolers Simply do not work well where there is a lot of humidity. But still, as your AC is not working you can try out the air coolers from our list. They will be good enough for your room and i will think of adding a PayPal link later, Maybe!!.
I have already bought an Air Cooler and currently using it for my room. The Air cooler is very good and it has great air delivery. Even at the lowest speed, the air feels so fast, it feels like it’s on high settings. Now my Question here is, can I use the ceiling fan regulator in order to further control the speed of the air cooler.?
That’s a very nice question but I am unaware of that. I really don’t know if you can use a fan regulator for an Air Cooler but you can try visiting a local repair shop and ask about the same. Or you can search the web for your query.
Hey, is there any air cooler which runs without water? Note – I am not looking for an AC. I have heard that there are some available in the market which doesn’t have a water tank.
An Air Cooler without water? Then it will work like just a normal fan. If you don’t want the hassle of filling the water then you should opt for a Stand Fan instead. Without water, the air will not be cooled
Thank you for this wonderful post. I want to know how is Hindware coolers. Can you check this particular model CS-176001 and compare it with the one from Crompton? And which Air Cooler type is better? Fan type or Blower type?
Hi, Hindware makes some good air cooler and you can go for it. With which air cooler from Crompton you want to compare with? Tell me and I’ll try to help you out. Now fan type vs blower type. The blower will give good air delivery while the fan type will give a good volume of air. The difference is with the amount of air and air throw range that’s it.
Hello Please Somebody tell me if the Symphony Hicool air cooler will be good to be used in a 200 sq feet room? I was going through the consumer reviews and found out very less positive ones. Some say it creates a lot of noise. Kindly Help me.
Hi Harsish. Let me tell you the Symphony Air Cooler is good for a room of 200 st feet you can go for it. And for your other question, yes air coolers tend to create a lot of noise after being used for a while. We have to deal with it.
Hi there! Please suggest me an air cooler for a room of 300 sq ft. I live in Mumbai and there are a few requirements which I want to be fulfilled. First is the Ice Chamber, Second is the Humidity Control and finally a Water level indicator and Remote. Please Suggest me the best possible.
Hi Sanjana. Let me tell you the Symphony Air Cooler is good for a room of 200 st feet you can go for it. And for your other question, yes air coolers tend to create a lot of noise after being used for a while. We have to deal with it.
Hi Sir, I live in Delhi India and I have a room which I needed to be cooled. The size is 15 x 15 just like a living room. The room has missing Windows so in this situation what kind of air cooler will you prefer?
Hello Avinash, If the room has missing windows then you can keep the cooler near the door so that it will get proper ventilation. Any diet, Slim, or desert air cooler will do the job. Just check our list and find the suitable one.
Hello Akshay Lal Ji, I live in Mumbai and I am looking for an air cooler for my room. The room size is 120 Sq ft. Another thing is that my bedroom is on the 10th floor as I live in an apartment. The terrace is just above my room and that makes my room very hot during the night. Please help me out by suggesting the best air cooler.
Hi avi, Air Coolers are not good where there is high humidity such as Mumbai. I recommend you go get an air cooler which at least has an ice chamber but keeps in mind that you have to keep refilling it as the cooling will stop once the ice melts.
Hello Akshay Ji, I stay in Worli Town which is near Mumbai and very close to the sea. We have a lot of salty and sea waves coming around so can you suggest me the best air cooler for this type of weather?
Hi Suresh, I have already stated before in my previous comments that Air Cooler is not suitable where there is high humidity in the air such as Mumbai. Once the humidity in the air reaches the maximum level the air will stop cooling and will work just like a normal fan.
I am taking advantage of the exhaust fan to outcome the humidity problem in my home. Can you help me buy the best air cooler in this condition? Ps – My room size is around 200 sq ft.
You can take a look at the Maharaja Whiteline Arrow, Symphony Siesta, Symphony Diet. These are some of the best air cooler and will be good according to your requirement.
I want to know about 55lt blue star coller. Is this my mistake that I bought Blue star?
Is Symphony Hi cool i31 litre air cooler good for a room of size 120 sq ft? Is it advisable to buy?
The Motor to Pump the Water in my Air Cooler has stopped working. Can you suggest me how can i get it fixed? And can i do it myself.
If the Motor pump is not working then either it is stuck or it’s dead. You can try fixing it yourself by buying a new pump but I would recommend you to call a mechanic or contact the customer care service and they will help you out. If you messed up yourself then it will create a hole in your pocket.
Which Air Cooler is better between Symphony Siesta and the Kenstar Cyclone? My Room size is somewhat between 200 to 250 sq ft.
First Let’s talk about brand. In my opinion both the brands are good. Symphony and Kenstar both has a wide range of Air Coolers. For your Room size you can go with any of these brands. Do check the features before making the buying decision. They have similar features so suggesting one is a very difficult task.

Are Crompton Air Cooler any good? Should i consider going for it? Or Pass and does air cooler really cools the room or just blows air like a normal fan?
Yes Riya,
Crompton is a very good company for consumer appliances. There Air Cooler are also great. You can go for it without thinking twice. and yes, Air Cooler does cools the room if your keep the water supply running. Otherwise it will work as a normal fan.
few questions i am curious about. Does honeycomb works good for hard water? Can we replace the wood wool pad with honeycomb later on? And suggest a good air cooler which has a 75 Litres capacity or above.
Yes, Honeycomb Cooling pad will work well for Hard Water no issue with that.
Yes, You can replace the wood wool pad with the honeycomb and vice versa later on. Definitely not by yourself, you have to call a mechanic. The Crompton Greaves Ozone is a good air Cooler with 75 Litres water capacity you can go for it.
Thanks for writing a great article. I am keeping an eye on the Crompton Greaves Ozone from quite sometimes. Should i go for it?
The Crompton Greaves Ozone is a great Air Cooler it has good airflow and water capacity. If you are getting a great deal on it then you should grab it. or you can wait for a sale.
Hello Akshay can you suggest the best cooler for a 140 sq ft room. My room has very less ventilation should i keep it closer to the window?
Let me know your budget? For a room size of 140 sq ft, the Symphony Ice Cube and Kenstar Cyclone are great. If your room has less ventilation then place it in front of a window. It will make it work better.
Hi Akshay Lal, i have few confusion firstly does the Crompton Ozone you mentioned comes with a copper winding motor? Also why cooling pads are not sold in market?
I am not sure about this but it is not mentioned in their description. So, in my Opinion, the Crompton Greaves Ozone comes with the Aluminum Winding Motors. Cooling pads do get sold in the market, you just have to visit the correct store. or you can try looking for them online.
Companies like Symphony are using Aluminium motors which one is good can you let me know between copper and aluminium
Yes, most of the company uses the aluminum winding motor and if there is copper used then they will definitely brag about it in the description. So yes the copper one is better like the one in Symphony Air Coolers.
Outstanding Article. I think you wrote this with a lot of research. By the way i already bought a tower cooler a year ago and it is very noisy. Can you suggest me something which creates less noise.
Hey Yash,
Thank you for your opinion. Yes, we did a lot of research before writing this article and for your question, almost every air cooler creates a good amount of noise. Also, Cooler companies don’t usually mention noise level in the description so it is very difficult to suggest one.
As per my opinion Symphony Air Coolers creates less noise.
Which one is best? Fan type or Blower type. Also what cooling fan should i prefer? Honeycomb or Wood Wool. The kenstar Cooler listed in the list gives bad odor.
Both types are good at their place. The fan type has a high air volume while the blower type helps the air reach more distance. In my opinion the Honeycomb pads is better. For bad odor you should not leave the water inside the cooler when not in use.
My budget is around 12,000 and What would be the best Air cooler in this budget? My room is a medium sized so i need good Air Flow.
You can go with the Crompton Greaves Ozone. This will be the best Air Cooler in your Budget. It comes with a 75 Litre Water Capacity and the Airflow is also great. You can also go for Symphony Ice Cube.
I have a Solar inverter installed in my home so i require something with low power consumption so you have any suggestion?
Hey Rohit,
Do let me know the Room size? As per your requirement you can go with something which consumes around 100 to 200 Watts of Power. From the list you can prefer Bajaj Platini Air Cooler. It consumes very less power.
Hey,
I really liked your review. Can you provide me your honest opinion on the Crompton 55 liter air cooler or if you have any other suggestion for a 240 sq ft room?
Hey Ishita,
Crompton is good brand and their air coolers are really great. The 55 Litres one will be good enough for 240 sq ft room size. You can definitely go for it, no doubt.
Any Suggestion for the Best air cooler i can get for weather like Pune? I want to go for the best brand out there.
Pune receives the most Humidity during july. It is not that humid so you can prefer using air cooler in Pune. Talking about the brand you can choose any one brand from the list. All of them are reputed and are in the market for a very long time
Hi Akshay, Will the Air Cooler has any advantage is i buy one which is suitable for a large room like 300 sq ft and use the same in a smaller room like 150 sq ft?
Certainly Yes, Air Cooler designed for the large room will have more Air flow. So it will be an advantage if you use them in a small room. You will get much better Air flow and cooling but it will also create a lot of noise.
Does Air Cooler shows good results in the Humid Condition? Just like the weather we have in Kolkata and how about Air Conditioners?
No, as said in the post air Cooler has a bad efficiency in the Humid Climate they will stop cooling once the humidity level reaches to a certain level. For Kolkata i would suggest you to Switch to an Air Conditioners.
There are new models launched by symphony like the Symphony Kaizen 151 DB and the HiCool 45T why didn’t you considered these to include in the list?
Maybe because they weren’t available at the time of writing the post? Well, Suggestions are always welcome. Thank you for that. We will consider including them in the list for future updates.
Humidity in my area is around 40 to 60% during the day time and increases to 70-80% during the night. Please help me choose the best Air Cooler.
Air Cooler doesn’t work properly where the Humidity in the Air is very High. You can use the Air Cooler in the day time but for the night it is completely not recommended. You should go for an Air Conditioner Instead.
From past few days i am looking for a air cooler for 400 sq ft area. It is a large hall, can you suggest me the best one?
Consider something big like the Symphony Siesta or the Crompton Greaves Ozone and never go for a small air cooler if your room is quite big. These Air Cooler has very high Air Flow and the air will reach to every corner of the hall.
My apartment has only hard water supply and very less ventilation can you suggest me the best air cooler? Also, which cooling among honeycomb and wood wool is good for hard water?
Cross airflow is required to cool the room properly. Use the Air cooler in a room where you have 2 to 3 windows else it will decrease its efficiency. Talking about the water, you can use hard water with any Cooling Pads. It will be fine.
I am looking for the best Air Cooler for my home. I live in Dwarka, Delhi. The one feature i desperately need is the remote
Hey Delhite Girl, There are a lot of Air Cooler available which comes with the remote feature. I would suggest you to go for Kenstar, alot of their models comes with the remote feature. They are budget friendly and good enough for a small room. Btw the suggestion can be better if you let me know the room size
Is Air Coolers good to buy in Kolkata? I’m thinking of getting one. Can you suggest me some good stores and brands.
Air Cooler simply doesn’t work well in Humid Climate. If the Humidity in the Air Rises the Cooling efficiency of the Air Cooler decreases. Kolkata is kind of a Humid place especially during the hot summer days. I would suggest you to go for an Air Conditioner. If you Still need a Air Cooler you can pick any brand from our list.
Will Air Cooler work good for the weather like Bangalore? Is yes then suggest me the best one for a 250 sq ft room size. Thank you.
Bangalore is not that humid so Air Cooler will work for Bangalore.
For a Room size of 250 sq ft, you can go for the Kenstar Cyclone or the Symphony Siesta or the Crompton Greaves Ozone. All are great and comes with a good set of feature.
How is Voltas company as a Air Cooler? I am looking for something which fills my requirement. My room size is 300 sq. Your Suggestion?
Voltas is a reputed consumer electronics brand. Their Air Cooler is also great the only issue here is the price. They are a little pricey. Considering your Room size you can go with the Crompton Greaves Ozone or the Symphony Ice Cube.
Sir, Simphony Ice Cube is very small in size compare to Crompton Greaves Ozone so How does you compare Crompton Greaves Ozone is equal quality as Simphony Ice Cube
Hey Naman,
Seems like You Got confused with Water Capacity and Size.
Yes, Crompton Greaves Ozone Got 3x Size of Water Capacity compared to Symphony Ice Cube but It doesn’t mean that Symphony Ice Cube Capacity is 3x Smaller than Crompyon Greaves Ozone, But Both Got Almost same Size of Fan (Crompton – 15.5 Inches, Symphony – 14 Inches).
I Suggested Priyanka Both Because Both are Currently One of the Best Air Coolers in India & Sufficient for 300 Sq. Ft. Room.
